Our Story

Community at the Hearth

Solas means “Light or Illumination” in Irish (An Gaeilge) & Scot’s Gaelic. Pronounced Sol-as it sounds remarkably similar to Solace, the feeling that can be found within the Sauna.

Solas Sauna has the aim to bring people together to enjoy the benefits of outdoor sauna, sharing a space for nature, wellness and social connection to thrive. Providing a solution to the modern challenges of stress and isolation on physical, social, emotional and mental health.

Sauna goes far beyond the technology of hot and cold therapy, it brings a community spirit along with an ancient practice that can be found in many cultures and climates. Including the Island of Ireland, both in the North and South, where we have the ‘Tigh ‘n Alluis’ or the ‘Sweathouse.’  These were bee hive shaped stone structures with a small opening, found in uphill areas, often near to a well, stream or river. This was a place where people would come for healing, especially for respiratory ailments, rheumatism and women’s reproductive health.

We are a small team with a background in Native American Sweatlodge, Mexican Temazcal as well as Nordic Sauna Culture. We are delighted to bring Sauna Culture into modern life, be a part of the revival of the Irish Sweathouse and provide a much needed wellness space for local community.

We were born out of a love for Fire & Water, and the Spirit of Sauna, finding the perfect balance of purification, relaxation & connection through embracing the elements.

We are passionate about creating a space that brings Sauna to the Hearth of Community, a space that offers a beacon of light, the warmth of connection and the freshness of renewal as an antidote to the business of daily life.

We will offer the simplicity of social or silent sauna sessions, intricate weaving of sauna ritual with medicinal plants as well as themed sauna events such as storytelling, singing and more.

Whether you are a newcomer to Sauna and want to try it out, or more seasoned and wanting to learn more, there will be plenty to explore.
